Marcus Tsang creates large, detailed portraits from the unusual, yet simple material, duct tape. Tsang, a British-born Chinese artist, currently living in Birmingham, UK, creates these duct tape pieces to reflect upon his family background of manual labour and interest in bringing art to the public eye.

He started sketching detailed portraits from a young age and has spent many years studying painting, drawing and sculpture. It was not until his second year of studying at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design that he stumbled across the idea of using duct tape, the idea that would come to define his practice. Ever since, his works have become increasingly detailed and natural whilst working with the medium of duct tape.

Tsang studied at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design for four years (2008-2013), accomplishing a BTEC Foundation course and a BA (Hons) Fine Art degree at the Birmingham City University Margaret Street campus. Many of Tsang’s works have been privately sold and have also been displayed in numerous exhibitions.

He now continues his practice in a private studio in Birmingham and will be presenting works in exhibitions around the UK.
