'I had an idea to craft high class illustrative art with something that is considered disposable and cheap, creating a contrast between the detailed elegance of an image and the audience's own experience with the common throwaway material. By carving out of the tape I leave an impression of the image. I have spent years perfecting the process to produce large, realistic, detailed images out of duct tape. I choose to create portraits because I feel that a connection is easily made between the audience and the subject and there are high levels of emotion and character that arise in the image of a human face.

My work is designed to look past our involuntary admiration of glamour and youth that has been induced by our society, to see things that we no longer notice or observe. I want the audience to see the true beauty in old age through my elderly subjects in my portraits.

I believe my practice stems from an appreciation of manual workforces and their skills: Construction workers, factory workers, sculptors, firefighters, police officers etc. These professions, in my opinion, are extremely overlooked and their skills are exploited. I want the skill needed to produce my work to be instantly recognizable, to represent the true skill that can be developed through manual means.
